A classic shade tree and keystone species that is especially important for wildlife. The leaves feed hundreds of caterpillar species, while the acorns feed squirrels, chipmunks, and blue jays. One of the fastest growing oaks, this is a large tree best suited for big yards. Does not do well in high pH (>7.5), often found in construction-impacted soils.
