Our native hazelnut! Produces a little nut that wildlife love. You’ll find them delicious, too, if you have the patience to crack its thick shells for the rather small nuts. Fall color is a soft orange. Although the shrubs have both male and female flowers, most hazelnuts are not self-fertile, so plant 2 or more shrubs for a good nut harvest. Sends out suckers and forms a handsome hedge.
