Betula allegheniensis

One of the best trees for caterpillars, supporting over 300 species! Fall color is a golden yellow, and shiny bark lends winter interest. Small branches and a moderate growth rate make it a good fit for a medium yard. Needs high quality soil and is sensitive to drying out. Does best in a sheltered spot, an irrigated lawn, or a moist, well-drained area.
