Lindera benzoin

A gorgeous shrub that does well in the shade. Its fatty red fruit is an important source of fruit for birds migrating south in the fall. Among the caterpillars it hosts are two very cute snake-imitating species, the spicebush swallowtail and the eastern tiger swallowtail. Requires a male and a female tree to bear fruit.
